China has completed the maiden flight of its new CH-YH1000 cargo drone, marking a major step forward in unmanned logistics development.

The successful test flight, conducted on May 22 at a remote airfield in northwest China, demonstrated the drone’s potential to revolutionise cargo delivery in hard-to-reach areas.

New Milestone in China’s Drone Logistics

Aerospace CH UAV Co Ltd, under the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation, developed the CH-YH1000 to meet the growing demand for efficient delivery systems in remote regions.

The team designed it with a focus on affordability and versatility, offering a strong alternative to traditional road transport in areas with limited infrastructure.

Engineered for Tough Terrain

Built with dual engines and a rugged cargo-aircraft layout, the drone can take off and land on unconventional surfaces, including compact dirt roads and grassy fields. It boasts a 1,200-kilogram payload capacity, 1,500 km range, and 10-hour endurance.

With a service ceiling of 8,000 meters, the CH-YH1000 is tailored for high-altitude areas such as Tibet and Xinjiang.

The aircraft also features front cargo access and underbelly drop capabilities, allowing it to carry up to four cubic meters of goods in a single sortie.

Optimised for Rural Supply Chains

Designed for quick turnaround and easy cargo handling, the drone integrates a 6kW power system that supports specialised tools for missions beyond delivery, such as disaster relief and aerial surveillance.

By linking urban hubs to rural communities, the CH-YH1000 can provide faster, lower-cost access to critical supplies.

Future Outlook

Prior to the flight, the drone underwent full-weight taxi tests in January 2025 at Zhanghe Airport in Hubei province. Following the successful data validation, developers plan to move ahead with further deployment and refinements.

As the global demand for autonomous logistics continues to rise, China’s CH-YH1000 is positioning itself as a scalable, cost-effective solution for regions underserved by conventional transportation networks.
