He Kept Her Afloat for 20 Minutes Until Rescue Team Arrived

A dramatic sea rescue unfolded aboard the Disney Dream cruise ship on June 29, when a young girl fell from Deck 4 into the Atlantic Ocean.

Her father jumped in immediately after her, holding her above water for nearly 20 minutes until the ship’s crew intervened.

Accidental Fall During Photo Opportunity

The incident occurred late morning as the ship was sailing between the Bahamas and Florida. According to witnesses, the child had been posing for a photograph near a railing when she lost her balance and fell into the sea. Her father, without hesitation, dove in after her.

The emergency signal “Mr. M.O.B., port side” was soon announced over the intercom system at around 11:30 a.m., alerting crew and passengers to a man overboard situation. Panic quickly spread as many rushed to balconies and railings, trying to catch a glimpse of the two in the water.

Quick Action by Crew Saves Lives

Despite the ship being in motion, the crew responded rapidly. The captain slowed and turned the ship before deploying a lifeboat.

Life rings were thrown into the sea while crew members coordinated the rescue from both the lifeboat and decks above.

Passengers captured footage of the tense moment, showing the father and child being pulled from the water and wrapped in blankets by crew members. The pair had reportedly been treading water for close to ten minutes when they were rescued.

Survival Against the Odds

Disney Cruise Line later confirmed the rescue of two guests but did not release their names or relationship. The company praised the crew’s swift response and credited their safety training for the successful outcome.

Overboard incidents on cruise ships are rare and often fatal. A 2019 Cruise Lines International Association report recorded 25 such cases, with only nine resulting in rescues. Experts said that calm seas, clear skies, and reduced sailing speed helped make this rescue possible.

An Emotional Day at Sea

Passengers described the event as terrifying but were relieved by its positive ending. One family who filmed the rescue shared their gratitude that their own children were safe and commended the crew for what they called a miraculous save.

The Disney Dream completed its journey and docked in Fort Lauderdale later that day, with passengers still reflecting on the close call and the bravery that ensured a happy ending.
