Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs, Kazem Gharibabadi, said on Tuesday that ending the ongoing conflict with the United States and Israel would only be possible once guarantees are secured that such actions will not be repeated.

“We are not committing aggression; we are defending ourselves. According to Article 51 of the United Nations Charter, and indeed the Charter itself, the conditions for halting legitimate self-defence are specified. One of these conditions is that such actions should not be repeated,” Abadi said in a televised interview.

The deputy foreign minister added that the only priority for Iran is to defend the nation.

“They killed our dear leader, and those responsible must pay the price. It is not as simple as carrying out terrorist operations, killing innocent people, and then saying, ‘Okay, stop,’ only to return six months later.”

“The Islamic Republic of Iran has inflicted heavy and painful losses on the Zionist regime, the United States, and their allies. Just look at the global economy and energy markets; this has been very painful for them,” Abadi said, adding, “In this context, we hold the upper hand, and therefore, the Islamic Republic of Iran will ultimately determine the end of the war.”

The United States and Israel launched a joint attack on Iran on February 28, after which Tehran announced retaliatory strikes on Israel and US assets in the region, with explosions reported across several Gulf countries.

The killing of Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei in a strike on Saturday was later confirmed, following multiple rounds of nuclear talks between Iranian and American officials.

Earlier on Monday, Mojtaba Khamenei, the second son of the late Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, was chosen as Iran’s new Supreme Leader. US President Donald Trump said the next Iranian leader would not “last long” if elected without US approval.
