Lebanon Ambulances Targeted – Bodycam captures moment blasts hit paramedics during rescue of injured – DISTRESSING

Nabatieh Ambulance Services released bodycam footage on Thursday showing the moment a blast struck near their ambulances in Maifadoun, as first responders were treating injured colleagues.

Footage shows paramedics assisting wounded colleagues when the blast erupted, shattering the vehicle’s windows and prompting one to scream in horror.

According to the ambulance service, the team was attempting to rescue injured personnel from the Islamic Health Organisation after an Israeli strike hit the town of Maifadoun. The explosion occurred during the rescue operation, killing one paramedic.

“These painful scenes provide irrefutable evidence that ambulance crews were directly and systematically targeted,” the service said in a statement posted on Facebook.

Lebanese media reported that paramedics Fadel Sarhan and Mahdi Abu Zeid were killed in the attacks on Maifadoun, which they say targeted teams from the Islamic Health Committee, Nabatieh Ambulance and the Islamic Resalah Scouts.

The Lebanese Ministry of Health condemned the attack, noting that the death toll among ambulance personnel has risen to 42 since March 2. It described the strikes as deliberate attempts to disrupt rescue efforts and as a serious violation of international humanitarian law, calling on global organisations to intervene.

Israel has not commented on this exact incident at the time of publication, but said its forces would continue ‘operations against Hezbollah.’

Tensions in the Middle East escalated after Israel and the United States launched military operations against Iran on February 28. Tehran retaliated with strikes targeting Israeli territory and US interests across the region.

The conflict spilt over into Lebanon, when Hezbollah announced its intervention ‘in revenge’ for the killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.

A ceasefire between Iran and the US-Israel alliance came into effect last week, though disputes remain over whether it extends to Lebanon. Talks between the sides ended in Islamabad on Sunday without agreement.

Meanwhile, rare direct talks between Lebanese and Israeli officials took place in Washington DC on Tuesday, the first such engagement in decades. Officials described the meeting as ‘open, direct, high-level’ diplomacy aimed at exploring a possible ceasefire between Lebanon and Israel.
