US guided-missile destroyer USS Spruance opened fire on an Iranian-flagged cargo vessel heading towards Bandar Abbas, CENTCOM said, as Washington continues its blockade of Iranian ports.
This comes after Iran announced it was again closing the Strait of Hormuz.
The video released on Monday shows US Marines issuing a warning to the vessel to vacate the engine room. The USS Spruance can be seen firing multiple shots at the vessel.
The exact date and location of the footage shared by CENTCOM cannot be independently verified.
According to CENTCOM, the M/V Touska transited the north Arabian Sea at 17 knots en route to Bandar Abbas, Iran.
“After Touska’s crew failed to comply with repeated warnings over a six-hour period, Spruance directed the vessel to evacuate its engine room,” it said in a statement.
US President Donald Trump said that US Marines had gained custody of the vessel after a ‘fair’ warning to pass the blockade.
“The TOUSKA is under U.S. Treasury Sanctions because of their prior history of illegal activity. We have full custody of the ship, and are seeing what’s on board!” he added.
This comes as Pakistan is preparing to host the second round of peace talks between the US and Iran to end the weeks-long war that has pushed the wider region into conflict. Both sides are accusing each other of violating the ceasefire.
“My Representatives are going to Islamabad, Pakistan — They will be there tomorrow evening, for Negotiations,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
