Drone Rescue Mission
Volunteer rescuers used a heavy-lift drone to evacuate a stranded resident in flood-hit Guangxi, after Typhoon Maysak left 15,000 people stranded in Yunbiao town alone and overwhelmed conventional rescue efforts.
Footage released on Tuesday shows a rescue team member in the Hengzhou area being carried by a drone from a rubber dinghy to a rooftop to carry evacuees to safety. Later, drones can also be seen dropping supplies on other buildings.
The exact location of the footage cannot be independently verified.
Emergency Evacuation
Rescuers said they received an urgent call for a resident who needed hospital treatment. With the surrounding area submerged, the team sent in the drone to carry the person across the floodwater to safety.
A rescue team member told media that “the drones have a load capacity of 100 kg, but for safety reasons, each load is limited to 80 kg.”
The drones were mainly used to deliver supplies to stranded residents, but the team said they can also be used for evacuations in urgent situations.
“We only use them for evacuations in special and urgent cases, like this one,” the rescue team added.
Severe Flooding Continues
Maysak’s heavy rains triggered severe flooding across Guangxi, breaching reservoirs, cutting off communities and forcing large-scale rescue operations.
Authorities in southern China say at least 39 people have died in the flooding, with thousands evacuated as crews use boats, helicopters and drones to reach those still trapped.
