Families Search Damaged Tents

Displaced Palestinians in Al Shati camp, west of Gaza City, searched through their damaged tents on Thursday after an alleged Israeli airstrike destroyed a neighbouring residential building.

Footage shows families inspecting torn tents and digging through the rubble for their belongings. The targeted building can be seen reduced to ruins.

Majda Al Zaharneh, a displaced woman from Gaza, said residents were given little time to escape.

“They told us at ten o’clock at night to leave the area, so we took the children and fled with them, and we did not take anything with us; no blankets and no bedding, we left everything.”

Residents Return To Ruins

“We came back here only to be shocked by this sight; no clothes for the children, no blankets, no bedding, and our food, as you can see, is scattered on the ground. We do not know what we did. Tell us: what did we do? And what sin did we commit?”

Palestinian media reported that the Israeli military warned residents to evacuate the building before striking it on Wednesday night. The blast reportedly damaged or destroyed more than 35 nearby tents.

“I do not know why they target the tents. People, we are civilians. Look at the children of Gaza, innocent children. This child, what is his fault? What fault does this child have? And what fault does this girl at school have? What is her fault? Look, people, look at our condition. We are in tents,” added another displaced person, Abdul Rahman Ramadan.

Injuries Reported After Strike

Seven Palestinians were injured in the Al Shati strike, according to medical and local sources cited by Anadolu Agency.

WAFA separately reported that three Palestinians, including two children, were killed in Israeli strikes elsewhere in Gaza on Thursday. The deaths were reported in Al Mawasi and Al Bureij, while six people were wounded in a separate strike in Gaza City’s Al Rimal neighbourhood.

The Israeli military had not commented on the Al Shati strike at the time of publication.
