US President Donald Trump on Saturday, April 4, posted a video of alleged strikes in Tehran that ‘terminated’ Iranian leaders, hours before announcing the recovery of a US pilot who reportedly went missing after his jet was shot down over Iran.

Released footage shows the skyline, identified by Trump as Tehran, with loud explosions followed by huge plumes of smoke and fire.

“Many of Iran’s military leaders, who have led them poorly and unwisely, are terminated, along with much else, with this massive strike in Tehran!” Trump wrote on his Truth Social media.

The exact date and location of the footage shared by Trump cannot be independently verified.

Just hours after publishing the video, Trump announced that one crew member of the downed US warplane in Iran has been rescued out of the country.

“WE GOT HIM! […] The United States Military pulled off one of the most daring Search and Rescue Operations in US History, for one of our incredible Crew Member Officers […] who I am thrilled to let you know is now SAFE and SOUND!” he posted.

“He sustained injuries, but he will be just fine. This miraculous search and rescue operation comes in addition to a successful rescue of another brave pilot yesterday, which we did not confirm because we did not want to jeopardise our second rescue operation,” Trump added.

It comes after Iran claimed its forces shot down a US F-15E Strike Eagle fighter jet over Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad province on Friday.

Trump earlier told the media that ‘we hope that’s not going to happen’, in reference to the potential capture of the missing service member by Iran.

The US-Israeli conflict with Iran erupted on February 28 amid diplomatic efforts to curb Tehran’s nuclear and missile programmes. It soon escalated regionally, affecting Gulf states and Lebanon, while global fuel supplies were disrupted by the partial closure of the Strait of Hormuz.
