Iranians formed human chains across bridges in Khuzestan Province on Tuesday, in a show of solidarity following threats by Donald Trump to target the country’s infrastructure.

Footage shows crowds gathered on Dezful Bridge, standing in rows while waving national flags and holding banners. In one scene, participants carry a large Iranian flag across the bridge, while a young girl holds a sign reading ‘sacrifice for the homeland’.

Local media reported that Iran’s Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports, Ali Reza Rahimi, had called on citizens to form similar human chains around power plants at 2:00 pm local time.

The campaign, titled ‘Iranian Youth Human Chain for a Bright Future’, encouraged students, athletes, artists and public figures to take part in a protest against US ‘war crimes’ targeting civilian infrastructure.

Trump has warned that the United States could strike Iranian infrastructure if a ceasefire is not reached by 8:00 p.m. Eastern Time on Tuesday.

“A whole civilisation will die tonight, never to be brought back again,” Trump said in the post. “I don’t want that to happen, but it probably will, Trump wrote on his Social Truth.

“However, now that we have Complete and Total Regime Change, where different, smarter, and less radicalised minds prevail, maybe something revolutionarily wonderful can happen, WHO KNOWS?”, he added. “We will find out tonight, one of the most important moments in the long and complex history of the World.”

The developments come amid escalating tensions following joint military operations launched by the United States and Israel against Iran on February 28.

Tehran responded with strikes targeting Israeli and US assets across the region, while the conflict expanded to include Hezbollah in Lebanon.

Iran later confirmed the death of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, with his son Mojtaba Khamenei named as his successor.

Shipping routes through the Strait of Hormuz have also been disrupted amid the escalation.
