Election Day Celebrations
Supporters of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) party rallied outside actor-turned-politician Joseph Vijay’s residence in Chennai on Monday, amid Tamil Nadu state elections.
Footage shows TVK supporters gathering outside Vijay’s residence distributing sweets, waving flags and dancing in celebration inspired by the election preliminary results. All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) supporters were sen outside their party headquarters watching election bulletin broadcast.
Supporters Voice Confidence
“In the new Tamil Nadu, as Thalapathy (Vijay) said, this is an election for generational change. The people of Tamil Nadu have reflected that today. The people have trusted Anna (Vijay) and voted for him,” Rajesh Kumar, a TVK supporter said.
“Anna promised to deliver clean administration like the Siruvani (holy) water of our hometown. He will provide governance as pure as the Siruvani water we brought from Coimbatore. I am truly grateful that the people trusted him and voted for him,” he continued.
Election Results Overview
As of the afternoon, Vijay’s TVK is leading in 111 out of 234 seats, while incumbent Muthuvel Stalin’s Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) trails with 70 seats, and the third front, AIADMK, has 53 seats. The majority mark in the state is 118.
Ever since India’s independence, Tamil Nadu has been ruled by only two Dravidian parties, namely AIADMK and DMK. In 2024, TVK was launched and led by Vijay, presenting itself as a people-first alternative to Tamil Nadu’s traditional Dravidian parties.
According to reports, with a message of social justice and transparent governance, his campaign, backed by a strong public appeal, has gained traction across both urban and rural areas.
