UN Rights Advocacy
Francesca Albanese, an Italian jurist appointed by the UN Human Rights Council, serves as Special Rapporteur on the Palestinian territories. She has repeatedly called for accountability over civilian casualties and alleged violations of international humanitarian law in Gaza.

The meeting comes as Spain maintains one of the most critical positions within the European Union on the Gaza conflict, calling for an immediate ceasefire and expanded humanitarian access.
Gaza Conflict Continues
The Israel-Hamas war erupted on October 7, 2023, after the movement staged attacks, resulting in the deaths of 1,139 people, mostly Israeli civilians, and the capture of over 200 others.

In response, the Israeli military launched an extensive military campaign in Gaza, involving airstrikes and a ground incursion, leaving 72,601 Palestinians dead and 172,419 others injured at the time of publication.
