Srinagar Security Tightened

Security was enhanced in Kashmir’s Srinagar amid commemorative events marking the first anniversary of Operation Sindoor, the high-precision tri-service military strike executed by the Indian Armed Forces last May in response to the Pahalgam terror attack.

Footage filmed on Thursday shows armed soldiers patrolling streets and performing vehicles’ security checks.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi updated his social media profiles with a commemorative graphic, reaffirming India’s zero-tolerance policy towards terrorism. The military also released a viral tribute video detailing the mission. The events concluded with the BJP announcing a 10-day nationwide Tiranga Yatra patriotic campaign starting May 13 to honour defence personnel.

Nationwide Tiranga Campaign

The anniversary also serves as a catalyst for broader political mobilisation. The BJP announced a 10-day nationwide Tiranga Yatra, a patriotic procession where participants carry and wave the national flag to showcase national unity, set to commence on May 13.

This rally, led by senior party leaders, aims to pay tribute to the armed forces and galvanise public support around national defence achievements across the country.

Operation Sindoor Response

On May 7, 2025, Operation Sindoor came as a retaliatory military action followed a devastating terror attack on April 22 in Pahalgam, which resulted in the deaths of 26 people, primarily Hindu tourists and pilgrims.

Border Conflict Escalation

Indian forces targeted and dismantled nine major terrorist infrastructure sites, including launchpads and training camps operated by Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), located deep inside Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir. The resulting border escalation concluded with a ceasefire on May 10.
