Storm Hits Zhejiang
Typhoon Dolphin battered eastern China with powerful winds and torrential rain on Sunday, making two landfalls in Zhejiang Province.
Footage shows residential areas flooded in Yueqing, with vehicles and residents pushing through deep water past fallen trees and damaged storefronts.
Two Landfalls Recorded
Dolphin, China’s 13th typhoon of the year, first made landfall at Yuhuan in Taizhou at around 17:30 local time (09:30 GMT), packing maximum sustained winds of 42 metres per second near its centre.
It made a second landfall at Yueqing at around 18:40 (10:40 GMT), with winds of about 38 metres per second, according to China’s National Meteorological Centre.
Mass Evacuations Ordered
More than one million people were moved to safety across eastern China, while about 1,400 flights in Shanghai were cancelled.
Flood Risks Continue
Dolphin weakened to a tropical storm after moving inland on Monday, but authorities warned that heavy rain could trigger further flooding and landslides.
