Rodri Starts New Barcelona Chapter
Spanish midfielder Rodri has officially joined Barcelona from Manchester City, calling the move an “important new chapter” in his career.
Barcelona Becomes First Choice
Rodri said Barcelona was always his preferred destination despite receiving interest from other clubs.
“I had some other options, as you said, but Barcelona was my first choice,” he said.

The 30-year-old midfielder explained that Barcelona’s football philosophy and future project were key reasons behind his decision.
Footage shows Rodri arriving at his official presentation in Barcelona, where he posed with a club shirt featuring “RODRIGO 2030”.
He said he was excited to begin a new journey with the club alongside his family and supporters.
Leaving Manchester City
Rodri admitted that leaving Manchester City was a difficult decision after spending seven successful seasons with the English club.
He joined City in 2019 and became one of the team’s most important players, making 298 appearances and helping the club win 14 major trophies.

His achievements included four Premier League titles and the 2023 UEFA Champions League trophy, where he scored the winning goal in the final.
Despite his emotional departure, Rodri said he was ready to bring his experience and desire to improve to Barcelona.
Trophy Winner Joins Barca
Rodri joins a Barcelona team that has won back-to-back La Liga titles but is still looking for its first Champions League trophy since 2015.
He said the club’s future potential was another reason behind his decision to move.
“One of the reasons for coming here isn’t just the present, but also looking at the project’s potential,” Rodri said.
Barcelona have signed Rodri until June 2030, marking the end of his seven-year spell at Manchester City.
The midfielder also achieved individual success during his career, winning the men’s Ballon d’Or in 2024 after helping Spain win Euro 2024.
His final seasons at Manchester City were affected by injuries, including an ACL and meniscus injury that kept him out for most of the 2024-25 season.
He later underwent minor back surgery in July 2026 before completing his move to Barcelona.
