Russia Presents Claims

Russia and Belarus told the UN Security Council on Monday they had evidence that the June 17 attack on a bus carrying Belarusian children in Russia’s Bryansk region was carried out by a Ukrainian-made drone.

“Colleagues, this is not about a strike on military targets with consequences for civilians nor an accidental hit, but about deliberate actions by the operator, who had the ability to see the nature of the target. This is a clear act of terrorism against civilians,” Russia’s Charge d’Affaires to the UN, Anna Evstigneeva, said.

A bus carrying a Belarusian children’s football team was struck by a drone in Russia’s Bryansk region earlier this month, killing one woman and injuring at least nine people, including six children.

Russia Accuses Ukraine

Evstigneeva accused Kiev of trying to drag Belarus into the conflict with Russia, describing it as a “cheap blackmail” tactic designed to pull NATO into direct confrontation with Moscow.

“Does anyone still doubt Zelensky’s true intention to artificially expand the geography of the conflict into the territory of Belarus, Poland, and the Baltic states? This is playing with fire,” she added.

She also criticised the UN for not explicitly blaming Ukraine for the attack and accused Western countries of enabling Kiev through continued military support.

“All these multi-billion-dollar injections into the fighting in Ukraine ultimately reveal the true face of Europe. It is acting not as a mediator but as the main sponsor of continuation of the war, attempting to speak to Russia in the language of ultimatums, threats, and political blackmail,” she said.

“By stubbornly and irresponsibly continuing to supply Kiev with weapons, you have long since become accomplices to his numerous crimes. You bear direct political and moral responsibility for them,” she added.

Belarus Issues Warning

Belarus’ Permanent Representative to the UN, Valentin Rybakov, said investigators had identified the drone as a DART-type UAV fitted with an explosive warhead containing the equivalent of around 1,200 grams of TNT and using FPV control technology.

“We strongly advise against further testing the patience of the Belarusian side and in no way consider the lack of an immediate tough response as a sign of weakness, indecision, or cowardice,” Rybakov warned.

He also rejected what he described as ultimatums and threats from Ukraine, saying Belarus would not be drawn into the conflict and still supported a diplomatic settlement.

Ukraine had called on Belarus to shut down four facilities that it said were helping guide Russian drone attacks on Ukraine.

“Any attempts at pressure or intimidation, ultimatums, or threats against Belarus and its leadership are unacceptable,” Rybakov added.

Calls For Diplomacy

Belarus requested the Security Council meeting following the bus attack. Ukraine has rejected the allegations of responsibility, while Security Council members called for an impartial investigation and a diplomatic resolution to the conflict.
