Hegseth admits huge cost of Iran war, praises Gulf nations after slamming Europe

US War Secretary Pete Hegseth said ‘it takes money to kill bad guys’ as he admitted the reported $200 billion for the Iran war could go up, during his latest Pentagon briefing on Thursday.

“As far as $200 billion, I think that number could move, obviously. It takes money to kill bad guys, so we’re going back to Congress and our folks there to ensure that we’re properly funded,” he said.

He also contrasted the support the US had received from the Gulf nations with the lack of apparent help from Europe.

“The Gulf states have stepped up incredibly,” he said. “UAE, Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, and others who have been right there. And we’re grateful for that kind of support.”

Earlier at the briefing, he accused European ‘allies’ of being ‘ungrateful’ for what the US had done in Iran.
