“Pakistan’s constructive diplomatic engagement, supporting de-escalation, ceasefire efforts, and the broader pursuit of stability between the United States and Iran continue.”

“Our sustained interaction with both Washington and Tehran was maintained. In the last two weeks. Pakistan remained committed to regional stability and international peace, ” he added.

Diplomatic Engagement Updates

Andrabi also referred to the phone call between the Pakistani Prime Minister and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian last Saturday, saying “our Prime Minister apprised the Iranian president about his own recent engagements with a number of world leaders, including the leadership of Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Turkey.”

US Iran Talks

Islamabad hosted a round of talks between the United States and Iran on April 11, mediated by Pakistan, but it did not lead to any results. The second round of talks scheduled between the two countries has not yet taken place.

Regional Tensions Continue

The United States and Israel carried out a joint military operation against Iran on February 28, and Iran later confirmed the death of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, appointing his son Mojtaba Khamenei as his successor.

On April 8, US President Donald Trump announced a two-week truce with Iran to allow space for negotiations aimed at reaching an agreement to end the crisis, before later extending it.

Since then, Tehran has restricted traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, while the US has maintained a blockade of Iranian ports, despite the ceasefire agreement.
