Singapore Russia Cooperation Talks
Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong said the country intended to work “closely with Russia to identify practical areas for co-operation with ASEAN”, during a meeting with Vladimir Putin on the sidelines of the Russia-ASEAN Summit in Kazan on Thursday.

“Singapore welcomes Russia’s strong support for ASEAN centrality and your active engagement with ASEAN. We look forward to working closely with Russia to identify practical areas for co-operation with ASEAN when we take over as Chair of ASEAN next year,” he said.
Wong also stressed that the countries had “long-standing relations marked by mutual respect, pragmatism and constructive co-operation”.
Meanwhile, Putin noted that Russia-Singapore relations had “traditionally been characterised by mutual respect and a pragmatic nature”, adding that they maintained a “constructive dialogue in areas of mutual interest”.
Security and Economic Ties
“Contacts between foreign ministries are also maintained, and co-ordination is carried out in response to common challenges and threats, in particular in the field of international information security.
We have a lot to offer each other in this regard, as I have already mentioned. I know that your country is actively engaged and interested in this area, as it is one of the key threats of the modern world. Significant potential remains in the economic sphere, although it has not yet been fully realised, including due to the introduction of restrictions. However, channels for business communication remain open,” he continued.
The Russia-ASEAN Summit is taking place on June 17-19 in Kazan. The Association of Southeast Asian Nations comprises 11 members: Brunei, Vietnam, Indonesia, Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore, Thailand, the Philippines and Timor-Leste.
