Viral Footage Raises Eyebrows
Donald Trump’s 28 July golf outing in Scotland has drawn fresh scrutiny after a video, filmed from a nearby building, appeared to show a caddie discreetly dropping a ball as the former U.S. president arrived at the spot in his cart.

The clip, taken at Trump’s Turnberry resort, spread rapidly on social media, prompting a wave of criticism and reviving his long-running nickname — “Commander-in-Cheat.”
History of Dubious Golf Moments
This is not the first time Trump’s play has been questioned. A 2016 story resurfaced of actor Samuel L. Jackson recalling a suspicious “found” ball after it had clearly gone into a lake.

Trump has also been caught on camera nudging a missed putt into the hole with his hand and abandoning failed shots without taking a replay.
Social Media Backlash
Following the Turnberry footage, thousands of online users — including professional golfers and comedians — joined in mocking the apparent ball placement. While some suggested it was simply a standard penalty drop, critics pointed to a pattern of unlikely recoveries in Trump’s games.

Celebrities like Anthony Anderson have claimed their own balls would vanish into the rough while Trump’s miraculously appeared in prime position.
Past Accounts and Published Claims
Trump’s alleged on-course habits were documented in Rick Reilly’s 2019 book Commander in Cheat, which gathered testimonies from players and caddies. Staff at Trump’s own clubs reportedly nicknamed him “Pele” for frequently kicking balls into better lies.

Reilly claimed Trump not only broke golf’s rules but would alter them mid-game.
More Than Just a Game?
Despite the accusations, Trump maintains a self-reported handicap of 2.8, a figure typical for top amateur golfers. His Scotland trip included political engagements, but it is his behavior on the fairway that has dominated coverage. To critics, it’s another example of him playing to win — just not always by the book.
