Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif arrived in Doha on Thursday as part of his Gulf tour, as Pakistan leads mediation efforts between Iran and the United States following a ceasefire agreement between the two countries.
Footage shows an official reception ceremony at Doha airport, followed by talks between Sharif and the Emir of Qatar, Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.
“We discussed the evolving regional situation, particularly in the Gulf region, and underscored the importance of de-escalation, dialogue, and close international coordination to ensure peace and stability,” Sharif wrote on X.
“I reiterated Pakistan’s strong condemnation of attacks targeting Qatar and other regional countries, and conveyed our full solidarity with the brotherly people of Qatar,” he added.
The Qatari emir expressed appreciation for Pakistan’s role in supporting efforts to de-escalate tensions and promote diplomatic dialogue in the interest of regional security and stability, according to the Qatar News Agency.
Sharif began his Gulf tour on Wednesday with a visit to Saudi Arabia, where he met Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in Jeddah. At the same time, Pakistan’s army chief, Field Marshal Asim Munir, arrived in Tehran.
Pakistan is currently leading mediation efforts between Iran and the United States.
On April 8, Washington and Tehran reached a conditional two-week ceasefire, followed by talks in Islamabad mediated by Pakistan, which ended without a final agreement.
