Massive Factory Explosion

At least six workers are reportedly injured after a series of explosions caused a massive fire at a GLS chemical factory in Haryana’s Rewari district on Tuesday, prompting the evacuation of around 300 employees.

Footage from the industrial zone shows the factory’s roof completely collapsed, with thick smoke billowing into surrounding areas as firefighters work to contain the active flames.

“The incident occurred around 11 a.m. As the fire spread […] People were running in panic, we could hear screams, and badly burned workers were coming out of the factory,” said factory supervisor Sonu Yadav.

Workers Describe Chaos

“We rushed to the scene. The vehicles were parked outside, so we used them to transport the injured to the hospital. We then alerted the fire brigade, which arrived within about 10 minutes,” Yadav added.

Factory workers expressed concerns about ‘conflicting’ information from company authorities about missing employees.

“When we found out that there was a fire in the company, I came immediately for my brother. I searched everywhere. The administration would not let us in. I searched as much area as I could, but couldn’t find him,” said one worker.

Fire Spreads Rapidly

Reports suggest the blaze erupted at Sector 5 while repairs were underway at a chilling plant and spread throughout the unit, with repeated explosions heard from a distance, causing thick smoke visible for about 10km.

At least 5 to 6 workers were injured, with four in critical condition sent to a nearby hospital and one receiving local treatment in Rewari.

Investigation Underway

Aside from the factory itself, authorities evacuated nearby areas due to heavy black smoke, raising concerns about air quality. An investigation by forensic experts and local police is underway to determine the origin of the fire.

The factory manufactures industrial ink and aluminium foils, catering to domestic and international markets.
