Deadly Floods Hit Regions
At least 22 people have died and at least 20 remain missing after torrential downpours triggered catastrophic flooding across central and southwestern China. The heavy rains have forced emergency teams to launch large-scale search-and-rescue operations to reach hundreds of residents stranded by rapidly rising waters.

Footage from Guizhou province on Wednesday shows flooded homes and ruined crops in nearby fields.
Elderly Residents Rescued
In Guizhou’s Changming Township, response teams rescued two elderly residents with limited mobility, trapped on the upper floor of their home after floodwater completely inundated the lower levels.

According to state media, the emergency teams waded through deep waters to secure life jackets for the seniors before using a ladder to evacuate them to safety in under 15 minutes.
Evacuations And Emergency Response
Meanwhile, in Hubei Province, footage shows water levels of the Bailushui River surging, flooding surrounding neighbourhoods and disrupting road access near Baishui River Village in Xuan’en County.
Rescuers were forced to complete a three-hour trek on foot to reach the isolated community and begin evacuations.

“Just within a few hours, the main search and rescue force arrived, and we finally felt relieved and saw hope,” said local resident Zhang Yuanzhong.
Local officials confirmed that all trapped residents in Baishui River Village have now been successfully evacuated and resettled, with emergency workers shifting focus to locating missing persons, clearing blocked roads, and restoring damaged power grids.
China’s Ministry of Water Resources on Tuesday activated a Level-IV flood control emergency response across seven provinces and regions: Jiangxi, Hubei, Hunan, Guangdong, Guangxi, Guizhou, and Hainan, and instructed local authorities to implement targeted warning and response measures.
