China Urges Ceasefire
China’s foreign ministry on Tuesday urged the ‘relevant parties’ to ‘honour their ceasefire commitments’ after Washington launched new ‘self-defence’ strikes on Tehran’s missile sites and boats.
“We urge all relevant parties to honour their commitments to a ceasefire, resolve disputes through peaceful means, continue to seek a negotiated solution that addresses the legitimate concerns of all sides, and work toward the early restoration of peace in the Middle East and the Gulf region,” Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said during a press briefing in Beijing.

“We hope relevant parties will seize the opportunity and find a solution that accommodates the legitimate concerns of all sides through negotiation,” she added.
She added that China would continue to “play an active role in restoring peace and stability to the Gulf region of the Middle East at the earliest possible date.”
US Iran Tensions
It comes after the US confirmed it targeted missile launch sites and Iranian boats that the US military alleged were actively attempting to place mines in the waters around the region, notably near Larak Island near the Strait of Hormuz.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps also said it shot down a US MQ-9 drone and forced another drone and an F-35 fighter jet to retreat.

IRGC warned of ‘definite response’ over the ceasefire violations, according to local media. The new attacks came as both sides were working to negotiate a peace deal to end the conflict that started in late February 2026.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who was attending the Quad Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in New Delhi on Tuesday, addressed the situation, stating that the United States had put forward a solid proposal for the permanent reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.
Quad Meeting Comments
“Cooperation between countries should be conducive to regional peace, stability and prosperity, and not target any third party. We oppose forming exclusive groupings or engaging in bloc confrontation,” Mao said on the Quad summit.
The Quad alliance is a diplomatic partnership between the US, Australia, India, and Japan committed to fostering a ‘free and open Indo-Pacific’. Top diplomats from the four countries met in New Delhi on Tuesday, making it their third such gathering since September 2024.
Mao also discussed the latest wave of Russian missiles launched against Ukraine, the visits of Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić and Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, as well as regional issues involving Japan.
