Erdogan Criticises Israel

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan described Israeli attacks on Lebanon and Syria as a “threat” to his country, accusing Tel Aviv of working to “destabilise African countries and the Mediterranean region.”

Speaking during a meeting of the Justice and Development Party (AK Party) parliamentary bloc in Ankara on Wednesday, Erdogan said Israel continues its military operations in Lebanon despite ongoing ceasefire efforts.

Concerns Over Region

“Israel refuses to withdraw from Lebanon and continues its bloody operations there,” Erdogan said. “At the same time, it has embarked on a covert effort to destabilise African countries and the Mediterranean region.”

The Turkish president criticised the international community’s stance toward Israel’s behaviour, noting that the world failed to take the necessary response to what he described as “Israel’s lawless, principle-less, and boundary-less policies.”

Erdogan argued that Israel has become increasingly emboldened and continues to pose a threat not only to the region but to humanity as a whole.

Comments on Neighbours

Referring to neighbouring countries, he said: “Syria and Lebanon are two independent and sovereign states. However, they are also part of Turkey’s geography of affection and brotherhood. Damascus and Beirut are Istanbul’s two sister cities.”

Military Operations Continue

Israel continues to conduct military operations across southern Lebanon, saying it is targeting Hezbollah infrastructure and military sites despite the US-brokered ceasefire agreement in place.

In Syria, Israel has expanded its presence in areas near the border and carried out a series of air and naval strikes, claiming that the operations were intended to prevent Syrian army military assets from falling into the hands of ‘hostile groups’.
