Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Malaysia on Saturday for a two-day official visit aimed at expanding military and trade ties, with both leaders pledging their partnership would benefit the ‘entire humanity’.

“India’s success is Malaysia’s success; it is Asia’s success. That is why I say the guiding word of our relationship is IMPACT. Impact means India Malaysia Partnership for Advancing Collective Transformation,” Modi told attendees during an event in Kuala Lumpur.
“Impact on the speed of our relations. Impact on the scale of our ambitions. Impact for the benefit of our people. Together, we can benefit the entire humanity,” he emphasised.

Modi also praised the historical friendship between the two leaders. “Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and I have been friends even before he became prime minister. I commend his focus on reforms, his great intellect and able chairmanship of the ASEAN in 2025.”
The Indian leader highlighted Malaysia’s significance for India’s diaspora, remarking, “Malaysia has the second-largest Indian-origin community in the world. There is so much that connects Indian and Malaysian hearts.”

Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim highlighted the strength of bilateral trade, which reached nearly 19 billion USD (16 billion EUR) in 2025.
“Bharat is among Malaysia’s top trading partners, and Malaysia is one of India’s leading partners in ASEAN,” Ibrahim said, noting that exchanges include palm oil, petroleum products, engineering goods, and pharmaceuticals.
Ibrahim also underscored people-to-people ties, revealing that over 1.5 million Indians visited Malaysia in 2025, surpassing pre-pandemic levels. “As we mark Visit Malaysia Year 2026, and amazingly, Prime Minister Modi Ji is one of the first visitors from India,” he added.
Before the event, Ibrahim was seen receiving Modi with a red carpet welcome at Kuala Lumpur airport, with both leaders observing traditional dance performances before heading to the community event.
According to India’s High Commission, almost 2.75 million people of Indian origin live in Malaysia, constituting about 9 percent of the country’s total population.
