Iran Supports Oil Market

Iran’s Minister of Industry, Mines and Trade Seyyed Mohammad Atabak confirmed Tehran was in favour of establishing a single market for petroleum products for the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), speaking at a meeting of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council in Cholpon-Ata on Friday.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran supports the further advancement of the process of establishing a common market for crude oil and petroleum products, the acceleration of priority measures to digitise transport operations and international transport corridors, and the finalisation of an agreement on the electronic trade of goods within the Eurasian Economic Union. Achieving these objectives will help to improve the efficiency of supply chains, reduce transaction costs, and increase the transparency and predictability of trade, whilst also making a significant contribution to strengthening the region’s economic resilience,” he noted.

EAEU Economic Cooperation Talks

Cuban Ambassador to Russia Enrique Orta Gonzalez emphasised Havana’s willingness to contribute to the strengthening of the EAEU, and the development of its economic, trade, financial and co-operative ties.

“The objectives are clear: to stimulate and boost domestic production, to generate revenue, and to improve the welfare of the Cuban people amidst an extremely challenging international situation. <…> As a country striving for peaceful co-operation, it is, of course, very difficult for us to find ourselves under such pressure. We are confident that we will overcome this colossal challenge created by the US’s hostile policy towards Cuba, and that we will move forward thanks to the solidarity and support of the international community, including the member states of the Eurasian Economic Union,” the diplomat added.

Leaders Discuss Future Plans

The latest meeting of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council is taking place from August 6-7 in Cholpon-Ata, Issyk-Kul region.

The heads of government of the EAEU (Eurasian Economic Union) member states will discuss strengthening co-operation, improving collaboration on customs regulation and administration, developing e-commerce, ensuring food security, the digitalisation of rail freight transport, and the creation of a common financial market.
