Pezeshkian says Iran has ‘no intention to attack anyone’ as fragile ceasefire with US-Israel nears expiration

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian stressed that Iran has ‘no intentions’ of expanding the war against the US and Israel as the two-week ceasefire nears its expiration during a televised interview in Tehran on Sunday.

“We do not seek to expand the war. We were not the initiators of the war. We have not attacked anyone, and we do not intend to attack anyone now. We just want our rights,” he said.

“They (US and Israel) want to deny the rights of a nation, of a society, through bullying. They say, ‘We have decided: you must not use this right,” he continued.

Pezeshkian also commented on the assassinations perpetrated by the US and Israel across his country, saying, “I wish they would just assassinate their target.”

“Instead, they come and bomb innocent people, women, children, the elderly, all of them, just because they want to kill one person. They kill many alongside that person,” he stated.

“We seek peace. We are defending ourselves. If a person does not defend themselves, they are dead. It is like someone who reacts when struck. If a person is struck and does not react, it means they are dead,” Pezeshkian concluded.

The Iranian President’s remarks come days before the ceasefire between the US and Israel on one side and Iran on the other is due to expire, with persistent regional efforts underway to curb escalation in the region.

US President Donald Trump stated on Friday that military operations will resume against Iran if an agreement is not forged by Wednesday.

On April 8, the United States and Iran agreed to a two-week ceasefire followed by critical Pakistan-brokered negotiations in Islamabad, which ended without a deal.
