Iran’s Central Military Command spokesperson Ebrahim Zolfaghari told Donald Trump ‘you’re fired’ during a briefing from Tehran on Sunday.
“Hey, Trump, you’re fired! You’re familiar with this sentence. Thank you for your attention to this matter!” he quipped.
It referenced Trump’s famous quote from ‘The Apprentice’ TV show – where he fired young business hopefuls – as well as his more recent sign-off ‘thank you for your attention in this matter’ from his social media.
On Saturday, Donald Trump gave Iran a 48-hour ‘deadline’ to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, or he would ‘obliterate’ the country’s ‘power plants’, and would start with ‘the biggest one first’.
The Strait handles around 20 per cent of global oil and LNG traffic, with prices surging since the attack on Iran. Tehran has said the Strait “is open to friends and non-hostile countries, but closed to enemies and those who collaborate with them.”
Iran has reported over 1,500 deeaths since the start of the war. The US has confirmed at least 13 military service personnel killed and over 200 wounded, with around two dozen fatalities admitted by the Israeli side.
