Metropolitan Police arrested the former UK ambassador to the United States, Peter Mandelson, outside his London home on Monday on suspicion of ‘misconduct in public office’.
Footage shows Peter Mandelson’s Camden home, which was searched by authorities following his arrest, along with his residence in Wiltshire.
The former ambassador was taken to a police station in London for interview. Police announced later on Tuesday that he was released on bail, pending further investigation.
It follows further revelations about his links to the late billionaire paedophile Jeffrey Epstein – and the arrest is believed to relate to claims he passed sensitive information to Epstein during his time as business secretary (2008-2010).
The 72-year-old former ambassador, whose media savvy powers in government in the 90s and 2000s led to him being dubbed the ‘Prince of Darkness’ – and later the ‘Dark Lord’ – was sacked by the prime minister in September last year when his connections to Epstein came back into the spotlight.
Mandelson has previously strongly denied wrongdoing in relation to the Epstein case.
