US Restarts Iran Blockade

The United States military on Monday said it will reinstate a blockade on maritime traffic entering and leaving Iranian ports from 16:00 EDT (8 PM GMT) on July 14 under orders from President Donald Trump.

Footage released by US Central Command (CENTCOM) on Monday shows US Navy warships, military aircraft and helicopters operating in the Middle East.

The filming date and location could not be independently verified at the time of publication.

CENTCOM said it would enforce the blockade against vessels travelling to or from Iranian ports and coastal areas, while allowing other commercial shipping to continue through regional waters, provided it does not violate the blockade.

Shipping Rules Tightened

“The resumption of the U.S. blockade against Iran follows the initial implementation from April 13 to June 18,” CENTCOM said in a post on X.

The US military also advised commercial mariners operating in the Gulf of Oman and the approaches to the Strait of Hormuz to monitor navigation broadcasts and contact US naval forces for further instructions.

Iran Rejects Trump Claims

Earlier, Trump described the United States as the ‘guardian’ of the Strait of Hormuz and said his administration would impose a 20 per cent charge on cargo transiting the strategic waterway.

Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi rejected Trump’s remarks, writing that Iran “has always been the GUARDIAN of the Strait and will remain so FOREVER.”

The announcement follows renewed military tensions between Washington and Tehran after US strikes on Iranian military and nuclear sites over the weekend. Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said it had carried out retaliatory strikes against US military assets in Bahrain, Kuwait and Jordan. The United States has not confirmed the extent of those claims.
