‘Dangerously uninformed or lying’ – US Senator Schumer blasts Trump over Iran elementary school attack

US Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer criticised Donald Trump on Thursday, accusing the US president of misleading the American public about intelligence linked to a missile strike that hit an all-girls elementary school in Iran during the early stages of the conflict.

Schumer questioned Trump’s claim that he did not know of intelligence reports about the incident. “Donald Trump on Iran, as the war on Iran continues, Donald Trump does what he usually does. He lies. He’s lying to the American people,” he said while speaking at a Senate session in Washington DC.

Schumer cited preliminary intelligence reporting that suggests that American military operations may have been involved in the strike, stressing, “The vast majority of Americans obviously won’t believe Donald Trump. They know he’s an inveterate liar. He lies daily.”

“If he didn’t know about it two or three days later, when all of America did, and he’s not lying, which I believe he is, then what chaos, what’s going on in this administration?” the senator asked.

He persisted, “Either Donald Trump is lying when he says he knows nothing about the school bombing intelligence findings – he gets these reports every day – or he’s dangerously uninformed, which says his staff is really screwed up.”

Schumer went on to criticise the administration’s broader management of the conflict, warning that confusion within the White House could have global consequences.

“Now, after the United States has damaged so much of Iran’s infrastructure, the new radical supreme leader is focusing on the one point of leverage Iran has always had over the world economy, the Strait of Hormuz,” he proclaimed.

The remarks come amid a wider escalation in the Middle East. On February 28, the United States and Israel launched a joint military operation targeting Iranian nuclear and military infrastructure. Tehran responded with missile and drone strikes against Israeli territory and US assets in the region, with explosions reported across several Gulf countries.

During the first day of the operation, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei was confirmed dead in a strike. His son, Mojtaba Khamenei, was later selected as his successor.
