Historic World Cup
Cape Verde bowed out of the World Cup after losing 3-2 to reigning champions Argentina in Miami Gardens on Friday but left with heads held high after a historic first appearance at the global tournament.
Footage shows supporters from both sides arriving at Miami Stadium in team colours before cheering on their teams. Fans later left the venue under police supervision, reflecting on a thrilling five-goal contest.

Cape Verde fans were full of pride after watching their side push the reigning world champions all the way.
“The odds were against us, and everybody thought we were going to lose by tonnes of goals, but our players, they played really well. They gave them hell,” one said.
Proud Supporters Celebrate
“After the game ended, all the Argentinians came to me asking to swap jerseys, because they said they had a lot of respect for us <…> That is something I cannot explain. It is a country of 500,000 inhabitants now on the lips of the world,” added another.
Supporters also praised 40-year-old goalkeeper Vozinha, who produced another outstanding display with eight saves, stealing some of the spotlight from Lionel Messi’s 20th World Cup goal.

Argentina needed extra time to edge past Cape Verde after Deroy Duarte and Sidny Cabral twice cancelled out Argentine leads from Messi and Lisandro Martinez. The decisive moment came in the 111th minute, when Diney Borges turned the ball into his own net.
Argentina Advance Narrowly
Even Argentina fans acknowledged the challenge.
“The truth is they stood toe-to-toe with us. But well, I think it was necessary to suffer; it was necessary to suffer, so it’s better to suffer now like this than later on,” one fan said.
Argentina will face Egypt in the Round of 16 in Atlanta on July 7.
