At least nine people were killed and 25 injured in violent clashes outside the US Consulate General in Karachi on Sunday following reports of the killing of Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
Footage shows heavily armed personnel from the Pakistan Rangers and local police deploying smoke grenades as they attempted to disperse crowds gathered outside the diplomatic compound. Protesters were seen throwing stones and other objects toward security forces amid the confrontation.
According to police officials, the violence left at least nine people dead and dozens more wounded, marking one of the deadliest protest incidents in Pakistan linked to the escalating conflict involving Iran, the United States and Israel.
Unrest quickly spread beyond Karachi. Protesters reportedly stormed the US consulate in Lahore, while demonstrations were also called outside American diplomatic missions in Islamabad and Peshawar.
In response, the US Embassy in Pakistan issued a security alert urging American citizens in the country to remain vigilant and monitor local developments closely.
