Passengers Flee Smoke-Filled Plane in Denver Before Takeoff

A flight bound for Miami was abruptly halted at Denver International Airport on Saturday, July 26, after a mechanical issue forced a dramatic emergency evacuation.

Smoke Triggers Urgent Evacuation

A United Airlines Boeing 737 Max 8 preparing to depart from Denver began emitting smoke from its undercarriage just before takeoff. The incident prompted the flight crew to deploy emergency slides, allowing all passengers to evacuate the aircraft quickly.

Eyewitness footage circulating online shows plumes of smoke billowing from the jet’s underside, with passengers sliding down and running away across the tarmac.

Brake Fire Contained, One Person Injured

Emergency response teams rushed to the scene and swiftly extinguished a brake fire believed to have caused the smoke. One person sustained a minor injury during the evacuation and was taken to the hospital for treatment.

In total, 174 people were on board, including six crew members. All other passengers were safely evacuated without further incident.

FAA Launches Safety Investigation

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) confirmed it is investigating the malfunction, which preliminary reports suggest may be linked to the aircraft’s landing gear or braking system.

The cause of the smoke is still under review.

Replacement Aircraft Arranged, Flight Delays Follow

United Airlines arranged for a different aircraft to complete Flight 2345’s journey to Miami. The airline apologized for the disruption and stated that safety remains its top priority.

The event caused cascading delays across Denver International Airport, with over 300 flights reported delayed that day. Normal operations resumed later in the evening.

Recent Scrutiny Over Airline Safety

This incident adds to growing scrutiny over airline safety and the performance of the Boeing 737 Max series, which has faced several mechanical issues globally in recent years. Aviation authorities continue to monitor the aircraft model closely.
