More than 1,800 people floated simultaneously in Mar Chiquita lagoon during Planchita Festival in Miramar de Ansenuza on Sunday, as organisers sought to break a Guinness World Record and promote the area as a tourist destination.

Footage shows participants holding hands and floating on their backs across the highly saline waters of Mar Chiquita lagoon.
1,837 participants were officially counted, falling short of the current Guinness record of 1,941 people, set in 2017 at Lake Epecuen. The attempt was conducted without official Guinness adjudicators, though the organisation carried out a coordinated count and photographic and audiovisual records to document participation.

“We believe that maybe we reached or have surpassed that number, since many people got into the water without wristbands and we could not count them,” said organiser Griselda Cuello, adding, “This is a great celebration.”
“I found the experience wonderful. It is beautiful to see so many people united to carry out this event, and next year I hope to be able to return,” shared a tourist.

The event was organised by La Escuelita Cultural Space and Public Library, with the support of the government of Miramar de Ansenuza and the participation of various institutions.
Alongside the mass floating attempt, organisers held ancillary activities, including live music, DJ sets, and food provision.
