Singapore’s annual I Light Singapore festival has returned to Marina Bay, bringing together 14 large-scale light installations, a Silent Disco Parade and the popular GastroBeats food and entertainment event.
Footage filmed on Friday shows visitors exploring interactive artworks created by artists from Singapore and around the world, transforming public spaces into illuminated displays that blend technology, sustainability and creativity.
Interactive Light Displays
“Each station is created by a different artist to showcase different varieties,” explained Mahesh, a visitor, adding, “Singapore is known for being hot and humid. I think during the night it’s actually quite windy, so it won’t be that sweaty. You can come visit all the exhibitions. It’s not very crowded, and it’s free of charge.”
Yuri from Malaysia described an installation, saying, “It makes us think about the impact of sound on this world. I like how it is very interactive.”
“This is also our first time seeing some installation art. It was really cool. Highly recommended,” she remarked.
Artists Inspire Creativity
Among the artists taking part was Uruguayan creator Alex Beim, whose installation invites visitors to create digital graffiti on a large public canvas.
“The purpose of this installation is to bring people together and create art by sharing this canvas,” Beim shared, persisting, “Graffiti is a form of art that is usually secluded under bridges and in dark spaces. It’s illegal. What we’re trying to do is create a space where it is legal, safe, and where people can be creative together.”
Popular Annual Festival
The festival is one of Singapore’s largest annual public art events. Since its launch in 2010, i Light Singapore has become a major cultural attraction, drawing both residents and international visitors to the Marina Bay waterfront each year.
