Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad, Malaysia’s former prime minister and a towering figure in global politics, continues to inspire at the age of 99.
Speaking at the International Wellness Expo (IWE) 2024 on 28th November 2024 (Thursday) at the Malaysia International Trade & Exhibition Centre (MITEC), Kuala Lumpur, Dr. Mahathir reflected on his long life, debunking myths and revealing the habits that have sustained his health and alertness over nearly a century.

Dispelling the Myths
Often asked about the secret to his longevity, Dr. Mahathir was quick to dismiss any notion of magical solutions. “There are no secrets. Neither is there any elixir of life,” he said, addressing speculations about unconventional health practices.
Some had suggested that regular blood transfusions might play a role, which he humorously labeled as “vampirish.”

A Life of Routine and Purpose
Dr. Mahathir’s straightforward approach to life has been the cornerstone of his enduring health. He highlighted his commitment to eating moderately, rejecting bad habits, and embracing good ones. “Key to all of it is discipline,” he said, reinforcing the idea that intentional choices shape long-term well-being.
Beyond physical habits, Dr. Mahathir emphasized the importance of mental engagement.

“Reading and writing,” he noted, remain integral to his daily routine, helping him stay mentally sharp and continuously informed. Regular physical activities have also been crucial, ensuring he maintains mobility and strength even at his advanced age.
